24.2% rural men know how to send e-mails with attachments

Only 15.9% rural women and 43.3% urban women in the 15 to 24 age bracket can send e-mails with attachments

About 24.2 per cent rural men and 49.1 per cent urban men in the 15 to 24 age range could send e-mails with attached files (e.g documents, pictures and videos) in 2020-21, as per a survey. About 23.7 per cent rural men and 48.8 per cent urban men in the 15 to 29 age range could send e-mails with attached files said the same report.

When it came to women, 15.9 per cent rural women and 43.3 per cent urban women in the 15 to 24 age range could send e-mails with attached files (e.g documents, pictures and videos). For women in the age range of 15 to 29, 14.4 and 41.3 per cent of women in rural and urban areas possessed these skills, respectively.

This interesting data was revealed in the Multiple Indicator Survey in India, by the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) for 2020-21.

In the 15 to 24 age group, 19.3 per cent rural men and 37.3 per cent urban men knew how to find, download, install and configure software. In the 15 to 29 age group, about 19.3 and 37.8 per cent of rural and urban men, respectively, could find, download, install and configure software. In case of women, the percentage was 12.6 and 30.8, respectively for the 15 to 24 age range, and 11.5 and 29. 8 per cent respectively for the 15 to 29 age range.

About 30.2 per cent of people in rural areas and about 27 per cent of the population in urban areas in the age group of 15 to 24 years were not in education, employment or training (NEET) at the time of the survey.

Among men, employment was the primary reason for migration, with 38.7 per cent men in rural areas and 56.1 per cent men in urban areas migrating for jobs. Marriage was the main reason for 93.4 per cent of women migrating in rural areas and 71.5 per cent of women migrating in urban areas.

About 15.7 per cent rural men and 17.2 per cent urban men in the 15 to 24 age bracket were not in education, employment or training at the time of survey. About 14.7 per cent rural men and 16.9 per cent urban men in the 15 to 29 age bracket were NEET.

The figures were higher for women, with 45.9 per cent rural women and 38.3 per cent urban women in the 15 to 24 age bracket not in education, employment or training. About 52.4 per cent rural women and 50 per cent urban women in the 15 to 29 age bracket were NEET.
