Facebook has shown its commitment to the well-being of its employees by announcing $1000 bonus for each employee, to deal with contingencies during the coronavirus pandemic.
The amount, which is their full bonus for their six-month review, can be used by the employees for childcare or even to set up a home office in these difficult times.
The social media platform has never given all its employees their full normal bonuses since its inception 16 years ago.
Some of the full-time employees in its 45,000 strong workforce, have taken over the work of the contractual workers, employed through third-party contractors, so that they are able to stay back at home. Plans are in the pipeline to pay these contractual workers for the time they stay home.
The Company will also be offering $100 million in cash grants and credits for about 30,000 eligible small businesses across 30 countries.
Facebook will be tying up with the Lenfest Institute for Journalism and the Local Media Association to offer one million dollars in grants for the US and Canadian newsrooms for adequate coverage of the coronavirus pandemic. These individual grants will be for up to $5,000.
Staff members of Facebook had been advised to work from home from March 5 onwards, although it wasn’t made mandatory.
Meanwhile, it is reported that Facebook and Google are discussing ways in which individuals’ personal data can be used to track and combat the coronavirus outbreak.
