The premier law firm with offices in Bengaluru, Kolkata, Mumbai and New Delhi, boasts of 98 partners, over 400 lawyers and a total staff of more than 650 professionals. It has hired over 70 students from various leading law schools for 2015–2016.

Amar Sinhji, the erstwhile group head, human resources and member of the management committee at Tata Capital, has moved to a newer role. He has been appointed as the executive director, human resources, at one of the country’s premier law firms – Khaitan & Co. Sinhji spent around 15 years at Tata Capital, prior to which he was with Essar and Bharat Petroleum.

After completing his degree in human resources from Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Sinjhi climbed the first rung of the corporate ladder with Bharat Petroleum. After a brief stint with the organisation, he joined the Essar group. His journey with the Tata group started in 2000, when he joined as the general manager, human resources, with Tata Finances. During the next two years, he lent his expertise to Toronto Dominion Bank, Tata TD Waterhouse Securities and Tata TD Waterhouse Asset Management, as HR head.

He did his schooling from the Rajkumar College, Rajkot and holds a degree in commerce from the H.L. College of Commerce, Ahmedabad (Gujarat University).

Sinhji has successfully aligned HR functions to dovetail with business plans. His active involvement in areas, such as corporate sustainability, learning and development, infrastructure and administration has made him an expert at team building.

Haigreve Khaitan, a senior partner with Khaitan & Co. says, “This is another milestone for us in our journey towards professionalising the firm. As an HR professional and coming from the Tatas, Sinhji brings with him a wealth of experience. This will give the impetus required to take the HR practices of our firm to the next level.”

Sinhji will join the management team of Khaitan & Co., which includes the COO and the CFO.

Khaitan and Co. has had a few high-level appointments in the last few years. Only last year, KPMG partner, Gautam Chemburkar, was hired to lead the strategy function. Sudhir Bassi, managing director, Morgan Stanley, also joined Khaitan & Co in 2013 as an executive director, in capital markets practice.

Sinhji, on assuming his responsibilities, says, “Khaitan & Co has been carefully built over a 100 years, based on value systems that I strongly identify with. I look forward to working with the management team and putting in place world class HR practices, while ensuring that we retain and nurture the ethos, culture and value systems that have sustained the firm for over a 100 years.”

For the uninitiated, Khaitan & Co is a premier law firm with offices in Bengaluru, Kolkata, Mumbai and New Delhi, boasts of 98 partners, over 400 lawyers and a total staff of more than 650 professionals. It has hired over 70 students from various leading law schools for 2015–2016.
