National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has appointed Dilip Kumar Patel as the director, human resources on April 1, 2020.

Patel is a human resource professional with more than three decades of experience in both line functions and HR. He began his career by gaining experience in mechanical maintenance and CHP operation at the Employee Development Centre in Korba, Chhattisgarh. After that, he changed his career path and moved into core HR functions at NTPC, in 1997.

At Chhattisgarh, he looked after the various aspects of the HR function at the Korba centre. He subsequently moved on to playing more prominent roles after he became head of HR at Koldam, Himachal Pradesh, where the first hydro project of NTPC was launched on June 5th 2000.

According to an official statement, Patel has been responsible for spearheading the HR function for various projects at NTPC. He has been the HR head for NSPCL, which is a 50:50 joint venture between NTPC and Steel Authority of India (SAIL). He supervised the stations at Bhilai and Sipat, Chhattisgarh and at Tanda, Uttar Pradesh.

He has led the charge as HR head in the said locations for around 12 years. Prior to his appointment as the director-HR, he was working in the capacity of regional head-HR in the Eastern Region-II under NTPC, comprising five operating stations—four in Odisha and one in Assam.

A degree holder in mechanical engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Rourkela, Patel received his post graduate diploma in business management (HR and finance) from the Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon.
