The employees of Himachal Pradesh Transport Corporation have not been paid their salaries for the month of March. It is reported that the most affected ones are contractual employees of class III and Class IV who anyway receive very low compensation.
The families of HRTC employees are finding it difficult to meet their expenses. According to the employees, the bus drivers and conductors work day and night to deliver the best services to the people of the state, but still they have not been paid their overtime dues and night allowances for the past 30 months.
It is reported that the salaries for the month of March have been released for other departments, but the HRTC employees are still waiting to get paid.
Meanwhile, in Karnataka, the Karnataka State Road Transport Employees League had called for an indefinite strike of all bus services operated by the four road transport corporations in the state from April 7.
The Karnataka High Court rightly stated that this is the worst time to go on strike. About 90 per cent of the bus services in the state run by KSRTC, NEKRTC, BMTC and NWKRTC have been brought to a halt. The state government has moved the labour court, which has called the strike illegal. The League has demanded that all road transport corporation employees be treated as government employees, which appears to be impossible.
