US-based supermarket grocery retail chain, H-E-B, recently gave away one hundred dollars to each of its employees, along with a thank you note recognising them for their contributions. The Company has over 1,20,000 employees across its over 400 locations in the US, which means, it spent over 12 million dollars in gratitude.

Largely based out of Texas and Mexico, with its headquarters in San Antonio, Texas, the 114-year old H-E-B  was recently recognised as the best US grocery retailer. This recognition came following an annual survey by a consumer research firm, which revealed that H-E-B ensured its employees felt valued in the firm’s achievement.

“In celebration of this historic achievement and to recognise the amazing work that you do each and every day, we wanted to thank you with a special reward of a $100 bill!”, the note read in part.

In response, hundreds of H-E-B employees took to Twitter to express their gratitude to the company for recognising their efforts in the organisation’s achievement. The Texas employees used the hashtag #HEBProud to share their love for working in the organisation.

While it has won many awards in the past, this is the first time that H-E-B has topped the Retailer Preference Index (RPI) report and bagged the top spot by knocking aside Trader Joe’s and beating even Amazon and Costco in the race. The RPI surveys 7000 US households in order to decide the number one or most-preferred grocery retailer.
