Behaviour Interactive, the gaming studio, has announced plans to lay off up to 95 employees, with 70 of these positions located in its Montreal office. Earlier this year, layoffs at Behaviour’s Montreal studio impacted three per cent of its global workforce.

In a press release, the company cited “structural changes” and a “clarified vision” as the reasons behind the layoffs. The company highlighted its growth from 575 to 1,300 employees over the past five years, driven by the gaming industry’s remarkable expansion. However, this growth has brought unprecedented competition, prompting Behaviour Interactive to refocus on its “historical strengths,” particularly in the horror genre.

The company has assured that the development of its popular game, Dead by Daylight, will not be affected by these changes, nor will its service business.

The company expressed its gratitude to the affected employees, while highlighting that these changes will position it for continued success.

The company acquired multimedia production firm, Fly Studio last March for an undisclosed sum.
Behaviour Interactive, founded in 1992 and based in Montreal, is one of North America’s largest independent game developers. The company specialises in creating multi-platform games, including original IPs and licensed titles. Notably, it developed ‘Dead by Daylight”, a popular multiplayer horror game, and co-created ‘Fallout Shelter’ with Bethesda. Led by Rémi Racine, CEO Behaviour emphasises creativity, innovation and a diverse, inclusive workplace.

The company continues to expand its game portfolio and explore new technologies, maintaining a strong community engagement and earning industry recognition for its contributions to gaming
