It was just a couple of days ago that Twitter had made headlines for laying off several employees. Now, it is grabbing headlines again for calling back some of them as they were laid off by mistake.
As reported by The Verge, Twitter had informed its employees via an internal memo, “By 9AM PST on Friday Nov. 4th, everyone will receive an individual email with the subject line: Your Role at Twitter. Please check your email, including your spam folder”.
More than 200 of Twitter’s employees in India were impacted across the engineering, sales and marketing and communications teams. The marketing and communications department was reportedly entirely dissolved in India. No details are available pertaining to the severance package offered to the employees.
The memo also said that in order to ensure the safety of each staff member as well as the data, customer information and systems at Twitter, the offices of the social-media company would remain closed temporarily and that employees will have no access to the offices or internal systems. Simply put, employees were asked to stay home and wait for the mails informing them whether they had been laid off or not.
The Company maintained that this layoff round did not affect its over two thousand content moderators and that access will be restored completely very soon.
Reports now suggest that Twitter is recalling certain employees who will be required for its future endeavours and plans.
