Part-time staff in Rajasthan govt to enjoy retirement benefits

The Government of Rajasthan has approved the draft regulation, ‘Rajasthan Part-Time Contractual Hiring Rules-2023”, wherein retirement benefits will be offered to part-time staff of the administrative departments of the state.

That means, the contract staff will enjoy the same benefits as the full-time staff members. In other words, they will be eligible for financial support of Rs 2-3 lakh as retirement benefits. This benefit will be given to part-time staff after they retire, or in the event of their death or if their services are terminated.

Additionally, part-time workers — including cooks, Anganwadi staff, helpers and so on— who have no influence over their salary structure, will gain from this new rule. This will also make the system more transparent when it comes to the recruitment of contractual staff, who will receive this financial assistance post conclusion of their services.

Rajasthan has been introducing various progressive laws and acts for the benefit of employees. Not long ago, the Rajasthan Platform Based Gig Workers (Registration and Welfare) Act, 2023, was rolled out to offer social security to gig workers. The Act creates a regulatory framework for aggregators and has been welcomed by those working in the unorganized sector.

The legislation was passed on 24 July 2023. However, the Act does not recognise gig workers as employees, which deprives them of benefits such as ESI and provident fund.
