The administration in West Garo Hills, Meghalaya, has issued an advisory asking state government employees to be cautious while using social-media platforms. The direction comes amid a sensitive situation in the district, with officials urging staff to act responsibly online to avoid disturbing public order.
District Magistrate Vibhor Aggarwal issued the order, calling on government employees to maintain restraint while posting or sharing content on personal social-media accounts. The advisory stresses that staff should avoid circulating messages, images, videos, audio clips or any other material that could provoke reactions or create tension among communities.
The directive also asks employees not to comment on or share posts related to law and order incidents. This restriction extends to incidents taking place in other districts or states if such posts could trigger resentment or public reaction.
The order applies to all government offices across the district. Heads of departments and offices have been instructed to ensure that employees strictly follow the advisory and remain mindful of their online conduct.
The administration has warned that violations of the directive may lead to legal consequences. Employees found disregarding the order could face action under relevant laws, along with disciplinary proceedings under the Meghalaya Civil Services (Discipline & Appeal) Rules, 2019.
The advisory is intended to prevent the spread of provocative or misleading information online and to help maintain peace and stability during the current situation in the district.
