SpaceX is in trouble for firing workers who spoke out against Elon Musk. A complaint has been filed, accusing the company of violating workers’ rights and snooping on their messages.
Now, SpaceX has been asked to apologise to the fired employees and put up a notice about worker rights for four months.
SpaceX is being looked into by the National Labour Relations Board (NLRB) because it is accused of wrongly firing employees who wrote a letter criticising Elon Musk, CEO, SpaceX. The letter was written by a group of workers during Musk’s takeover of Twitter, now named X, and it raised concerns about Musk’s behaviour being a distraction.
The NLRB alleges that SpaceX broke federal rules by questioning employees about the letter, telling them not to talk about the interviews, and making them feel like they were being watched all the time.
The report also mentions that SpaceX went through employees’ messages, shared them, and tried to stop the open letter from being circulated. The company is also accused of pushing workers to quit and threatening to fire them for joining organised activities.
The NLRB wants SpaceX to display a notice about worker rights for four months and say ‘sorry’ to the fired employees. There’s a hearing scheduled for 5 March, 2024, unless matters are sorted out before that. If the judge decides something, it can be challenged first with the board and then in a higher court.
