The programme will skill the students in leadership, analytics, IR, and designing and creation of organisational culture.

T.A. Pai Management Institute (TAPMI) has launched a postgraduate programme in human resources management (HRM) in collaboration with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). SHRM will help TAPMI develop the curriculum for the programme.

Students completing this programme will be awarded a PG diploma in management (HRM) by TAPMI. The students can also achieve SHRM global certification by appearing for the certificate exam. This certification is one of the most coveted and sought-after HR certifications, by HR professionals.

The students enrolling for the programme will be trained in five different areas, which have a significant impact on business—

    • leadership competencies including the use of leadership psychometrics and leadership coaching
    • use of analytics, evidence-based HR and management of technology
    • creation and changing of organisational culture to align the same with the organisational strategy
    • designing of organisational structure in line with strategy, using contemporary organisational development (OD) techniques
    • industrial relations and negotiation skills

Under this programme, the students will first be groomed to develop leadership competencies under the guidance of TAPMI’s Leadership Assessment and Development Centre. Thereafter, they will develop high levels of empathy and corporate social responsibility through immersive projects in the social sector. Then, they will be trained to become opinion leaders through a detailed research of contemporary HR topics, which they will publish in an academic or industry-related journal. Finally, they will be trained to gain expertise in various areas of HR.

Students enrolled in the programme will be provided a comprehensive Online Learning System, with real-life situations—which require decision-making skills—incorporated into the online learning modules and study tools.

Speaking about the collaboration with SHRM, Col. James, area chair-HR at TAPMI said, “TAPMI is the first institution in India to collaborate with SHRM to design the programme and offer dual certification. Our objective is to create professionals in strategic HR, who can lead and manage transformational change in their business enterprise”.

Giving her view on the programme, Achal Khanna, CEO, SHRM India said “SHRM’s Academic Initiatives Mission is to help create better-prepared entry-level HR professionals through education, assessment, competencies and internships”.

Further, Dedeepya Ajith John, associate director at SHRM India added, “We are trying to embed the content of our SHRM Certified Professional Certification into the two-year course curriculum, to help students attain practical and theoretical knowledge about human resources, and also equip them with the necessary competencies linked to job performance and job success”.
