Krishna Raghavan has been elevated to the position of chief people officer, Flipkart. Prior to this, he was the senior VP, engineering, fulfillment and services in the Company. He was responsible for engineering and product for the Group’s services— ekart, FSE and Jeeves— with the aim to transform the Group’s consumer experiences through investments in the next generation of platforms and capabilities.

Since November, 2019, when Smriti Singh exited from Flipkart, the position of CHRO has stayed vacant. Singh, who was reporting to Kalyan Krishnamurthy, barely completed a year at Flipkart, and now the position has been filled by bringing in Raghavan, who is an expert in technology and engineering, unlike Singh who grew up within the HR function.

Raghavan has led engineering teams in many tech-heavy internet businesses. Before joining Flipkart in August 2017, he was the CTO of Cleartrip.com. Infact, he played one innings at Flipkart ahead of Cleartrip.com, as head of engineering, marketplace and catalogue.

Raghavan is an innovative and inspiring leader with more than a decade’s experience working in product companies across the US and India. In addition, he has worked extensively with e-commerce apps, SaaS Delivery Model, engineering leadership and management, product startups, enterprise solutions and integrations, and even running 24/7 high-availability product operations.

A mathematics evangelist, Raghavan received a distinction with his BSc degree from St. Xavier’s College. In addition, he also completed a dual degree programme in mathematics and computer science from Denison University. He worked in a dozen odd organisations after passing out of college, including six years as senior engineer, Andale, California, and even a stint as director, engineering, Vendio, Bengaluru.

Now, Raghavan is all set to lead the people business from the front. His skills at managing cross- functional and diverse teams across geographies makes him very deserving of this role. Moreover, his wide range of experiences include having built a great engineering organisation from ground up, long-term strategic hiring, intuitive people-management skills and sound organisation planning.
