On Women’s Day, National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), the Indian integrated power company has announced a special recruitment drive, to hire only women executives across its areas of operations. This move is expected to strengthen the representation of women in the power generation company and improve gender diversity.

The Company has been looking at ways to improve its gender ratio in every way possible. It has taken several initiatives to attract more woman applicants. For one, women do not need to pay any application fee at the time of recruitment.

For its existing women staff, NTPC offers child care leave with pay, maternity leave, sabbatical leave and NTPC special child care leave on adoption of a child/delivering a child through surrogacy. It has also introduced special facilities at work like child care and crèche facilities to make the lives of mother stress free at work.

Special counselling sessions are also arranged for women employees whenever required and they are encouraged to develop leadership/managerial skills.

At the NTPC townships, women play a pivotal role in community developmental activities to foster a diversified culture through Ladies Clubs. Given its pan India presence, there is already a lot of diversity amongst employees in terms of religion, dialect and culture.

It has been providing equal opportunity to women employees and minorities at all levels since its inception. The Company ensures that statutory requirements and policy guidelines are adhered to without any discrimination.
