Bloomberg London has hired two students from Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad, offering them an annual package of Rs 90 lakhs and Rs 81 lakhs respectively. The two were selected as part of an off-line campus placement drive, which witnessed participation from about 675 students. About 191 of these were given pre-placement offers.
Banipreet Raheja who is pursuing a Dual Degree CSE at IIT(ISM) has been offered a package of Rs 90 lakh, while, Abhinav Bajpai has been offered a package of Rs 81 lakhs per annum.
This year, about 144 companies participated in the drive.
The highest package received last year was from Google, of about 54-57 lakhs. Before that, in 2012, a student had been offered an annual package of Rs 56 lakh from Facebook.
Meanwhile, in Telangana, the state has created the Campus Placement Umbrella (CPU), which began last September, to bring all constituent and affiliated engineering colleges to JNTU under it. It recommends necessary skill sets to improve student employability and advises faculty. The CPU encourages student participation by engaging in various academic activities.
It has also conducted a virtual conference in May this year with participation of UNYCC, TASK, TSIC along with the representatives of the corporate community. The conference introduced students from all the 33 districts of Telangana to the skill sets and work culture necessary for improving workforce demand.
