STAR TV launches People Excellence Programme

The programme will focus on mentorship and development of people through regular conversations and learning interventions.

As companies grow, the human resource processes not just need to be streamlined and structured, but also have to be made robust with clear-cut guidelines on performance. Considering this, STAR recently introduced the People Excellence Programme (PEP) aimed at bringing transparency into the performance management.

The PEP aims to ensure that the employees of STAR are in sync with the vision of the Company, and are in full know of how they can contribute positively towards that vision.

    Uday Shankar

As the number of people in the organisation grew, we realised that talent management has to be a lot more structured, organised and scientific, and essentially evolve, for the new reality that has become STAR India.

Talking about how PEP will rework on the performance management system of Uday Shankar, chairman and CEO, STAR, says, “As the number of people in the organisation grew, we realised that talent management has to be a lot more structured, organised and scientific, and essentially evolve, for the new reality that has become STAR India.”

In the initial stages of its creation, surveys and one-to-one sessions were conducted with people across functions, tenures and seniority levels, to understand what really motivated the employees. Also, it was ensured that the new programme reflects the culture of STAR — inclusive, open and creative.

    Amita Maheshwari

PEP is a programme focusing on mentorship and development of people through frequent conversations and learning interventions.

As a part of the programme, the bosses are not looked upon as ‘bosses’ but as coaches who ascertain if employees’ goals are in tune with the ones of the Company. If they are found to be otherwise, then ways to bring them together are employed. By doing so, it is ensured that neither the development of the employee, nor the vision of the company is compromised, and that, there is a symphony in the HR processes and employees.

Shedding more light on the programme, Amita Maheshwari, president & head – human resources, STAR India shares, “PEP is a programme focusing on mentorship and development of people through frequent conversations and learning interventions”

    Arpita Menon

The biggest takeaway of PEP, for me, is that each of us will have a crystal-clear understanding of our goals. Focus on fewer goals will ensure that we pick what’s important and chase that.

Talking about the takeaways of the newly included programme, Arpita Menon of Partnership and Innovation team, STAR India says, “The biggest takeaway of PEP, for me, is that each of us will have a crystal-clear understanding of our goals. Focus on fewer goals will ensure that we pick what’s important and chase that. This is in line with the STAR way of chasing fewer but game-changing things. I am also happy that the programme calls out and recognises collaboration as an important goal. Cross-functional teams working together are a necessity for a large company, such as STAR and is a big step in the right direction.”

So that the employees understand the new programmes well, they will be put through in-depth sessions on PEP and elaborate training.
