Amazon India launches 2nd all-women delivery station, promotes diversity

E-commerce company, Amazon, has established a delivery station in Kadi, in the Mehsana district of Gujarat, which is managed entirely by women. A total of eight women are employed there at present. This is the second delivery station of the Company, which is run by an all-women staff. The first one was set up in Chennai four years back, in collaboration with a delivery service partner.

This is Amazon’s way of ensuring that more women become an active part of the workforce. Through its ‘Delivery Service Partner’ initiative, the Company collaborates with partners to take maximum advantage of their familiarity of the local geographies and communities, to ensure efficient last-mile delivery.

At the delivery station in Kadi, which is located about 50 kilometres from the city of Ahmedabad, all positions — managerial or otherwise — even that of delivery associates, are occupied by women. This is the first time that the state of Gujarat has got an all-women station.

Women delivery personnel have been provided a helpline number to use in case they need help or support of any kind, while out delivering parcels.

The Company’s fulfilment centres across Gujarat have already given employment opportunities to 200 women.

Proving that it is taking its diversity and inclusion agenda very seriously, Amazon recently opened a delivery station in the state, which is managed by transgenders. It is attempting to employ members of the transgender community at a sorting centre in Delhi, and at its fulfilment centre in Sonipat. The Company has also been offering opportunities to ex-defense personnel and those who are differently abled.
