Lava International, India’s leading smartphone maker, is working to make manufacturing more inclusive. The company has launched a programme to help women from underprivileged backgrounds build careers in electronics. More than 150 young women, many of them the first in their families to work in industry, are being trained and offered structured jobs in a safe workplace.
As part of this effort, Lava has set up a women-only assembly line at its Noida plant to encourage more women to take up core manufacturing roles. Women at the facility are now employed across a wide range of functions, including assembly, packaging, quality checks, HR, engineering (industrial and production (IE & PE), production planning and control (PPC), new product introduction (NPI), and plant support functions.
Sanjeev Agarwal, executive director and chief manufacturing officer, Lava International, said, the company’s efforts help enable “youth from modest backgrounds to build meaningful careers in electronics manufacturing by providing the right skills, safe workplaces and equal opportunities”. He shared that “bridging the gender gap with pay parity, strong safety measures and supportive workplace policies, are aligned to a sustainable growth project”.
Lava’s programme is part of its plan for fair and sustainable growth. The goal is to give young people in India—especially women from small towns and low-income families—real chances to work in electronics manufacturing. By doing this, the company hopes women can gain skills, steady jobs, and financial independence.
As India grows into a global hub for electronics, Lava’s women-only assembly line shows how inclusive hiring can support both business growth and a stronger manufacturing industry.
Founded in 2009, the company’s corporate office and manufacturing facility, equipped with a production capacity of 42.52 million handsets per annum, are located in Noida. The company is stepping beyond smartphones, and gearing to manufacture other products such as smartwatches, Neckbands, Probuds, and an extended True Wireless Stereo (TWS) segment.
