    Projects worth Rs 19,000 cr. to create 26K jobs in TN

    Tamil Nadu government has inked 18 MoUs pertaining to projects worth Rs 19,955 crore, with several Indian and international companies. These projects have the potential to generate employment for over 26,509 people in the state.

    Some of the major investments have come in from, Mahindra CIE, the automotive components manufacturing company, which will be spending about Rs 100 crores on an auto components plant in Hosur, Krishnagiri. The plant will have the capacity to employ about 500 people. In Hosur itself, Ola Electric will invest Rs 2,354 crore in a unit that will manufacture electric two-wheelers. The unit will create jobs for about 2,182 people.

    Torrent Gas will put in Rs 5,000 crore to set up a gas distribution network in Chennai and Tiruvallur, which will provide employment to about 5,000 people. Pipelines will be laid and other infrastructure built covering an area of 3,569 square kilometres, to provide piped natural gas (PNG) connections to homes, industries and commercial establishments. Infrastructure will also be created for supply of compressed natural gas (CNG) to automobiles.

    The Adani group will invest Rs 2,300 crore to set up a data centre in Siruseri, Chengalpattu district. This project will create jobs for about 1,000 people.

    Arizona-based First Solar will pour in Rs 4,875 crore, to set up a solar module manufacturing plant in the state, to produce photovoltaic solar modules using advanced thin film semi conductor technology. The plant will employ about 1,076 people.

    American pharmaceuticals company, Mylan Laboratories will invest Rs 350 crores in a plant that will manufacture injections, in Krishnagiri district, with the potential to employ 250 people.

    Society for Smart Electric Mobility (SSEM) will set up an electric vehicle and future mobility park with a skill development centre, worth Rs 2,500 crore, providing jobs to about 1,000.

    Voltas, which is part of the Tata Group, proposes to set up a manufacturing facility for air conditioners and commercial refrigeration products in Kanchipuram. The project will cost about Rs 1,001 crore and provide jobs to at least 2,000 people.
