The Sultan of the Kingdom of Oman ordered the nation’s government to work on initiatives that will offer 32,000 job opportunities this year. In addition, the Sultan has directed that government subsidies be provided for new employees of the workforce, that is, first-time employees. The government will be providing 200 Omani Rials as support to the new entrants.

This is part of the country’s ongoing efforts to employ youth in public- and private-sector institutions.

These directives came close on the heels of protests in Oman over layoffs and poor economic conditions across the country.

These new operational initiatives are aimed to bring relief to the jobless and those rendered jobless due to the impact of the pandemic on the nation’s economy.

The 32,000 job opportunities will include about 12,000 opportunities in the government departments, as well as civil and military sectors, depending on the requirements in these sectors.

About 2,000 locals will get an opportunity to serve the government as contractual workers or temporary hires, as per the requirements of various government departments. The Kingdom aims to provide about a million hours of part-time work opportunities in government institutions.

The Ministry of Labour will share the details of all these latest initiatives and measures next month.

The Sultanate is presently putting in efforts to combat the pandemic that is affecting the economy deeply. Almost 900 fresh cases have emerged, whereas the number of confirmed cases has crossed 2.11 lakhs.
