TCS staff may be asked to return to office post pandemic

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) believes that social interaction is significant for people, and therefore, Chairman N Chandrasekaran recently revealed at the annual general meeting that TCS will ask employees to return to working from the office post pandemic.

While 97 per cent of the TCS workforce have been working from home, till now, there is no denying the fact that the hybrid work model will be the way forward. That is, a blend of remote working and working from office. Therefore, Chandrasekaran is of the opinion that offices will be required, even if the “occupancy levels may go down”. He expects that offices will have more spaces for collaboration.

Apparently, about five per cent of TCS’ global workforce was affected by COVID-19, of which 80 per cent have recovered. After the pandemic struck, TCS had stated that in five years’ time, a quarter of its staff will be working from office at any given point of time.

The HR at TCS has been in touch with each and every employee and has created in-house tools to discuss various issues, not necessarily official, that may be bothering the employees and lend the required support.

The Company, which employs people from about 150 nationalities, is all set to focus on becoming a net zero-emission in the next 10 years. It will work to bring down absolute greenhouse gas emissions by 70 per cent in the next five years.

In time all companies will realise that the blended model is the only way. 100 percent work from home will cause isolation issues and performance drops. Trust Indian IT leaders to do the right thing at the right time.
