Allcargo Logistics to increase workforce by 20% ahead of festive-season demand

Allcargo Logistics is set to increase its workforce by 20 per cent across its Express Distribution and Consultative Logistics businesses as retailers prepare for higher shipment volumes during the upcoming festive season.

The expansion will take the combined workforce across the two businesses to around 9,000 employees during the peak period. The move is aimed at strengthening operational capacity and maintaining delivery and service levels as retail activity increases.

The company’s domestic supply chain operations support retailers through a combination of warehousing, transportation, express distribution, store replenishment, e-commerce fulfilment and reverse logistics. The additional workforce will support these operations as businesses prepare for a seasonal increase in orders.

Technology will also play a key role in managing the expected rise in volumes. Allcargo uses Warehouse Management Systems and Transportation Management Systems, along with AI-based analytics, real-time shipment tracking and digital control tower capabilities.

These systems are designed to improve inventory management, optimise transportation planning and provide greater visibility across shipments. They also enable quicker operational decisions when volumes increase sharply.

The company is also seeing growing logistics requirements beyond major cities. Tier II and Tier III markets are emerging as important growth areas for retailers, supported by higher disposable incomes, improving infrastructure and greater digital adoption.

The expansion of organised retail and omnichannel commerce in these markets is increasing demand for logistics networks capable of supporting deliveries outside metropolitan centres.

Allcargo said its domestic supply chain network covers districts across India and supports businesses through express distribution, air freight, e-commerce logistics and first- and last-mile delivery.

The workforce expansion comes as retailers and logistics providers prepare for one of the busiest periods of the year. For Allcargo, the focus will be on combining additional manpower with technology-enabled operations to manage higher demand and maintain service consistency across markets.
