Water and wastewater solutions company Gradiant has expanded its engineering presence in Coimbatore, more than doubling the workforce at its Global Engineering Center (GEC) from around 100 to over 200 professionals.
The expansion is part of the company’s plan to strengthen its engineering and project-execution capabilities in India as it grows its international business across semiconductors, advanced manufacturing and other industries with critical water requirements.
The enlarged centre will bring together expertise in process engineering, detailed design and project engineering. This will enable the Coimbatore team to take greater responsibility for engineering and design work linked to Gradiant’s projects across global markets.
For employees, the expansion is expected to create opportunities across multiple engineering disciplines. Engineers will work on international projects and gain exposure to advanced water and wastewater technologies, global engineering standards and multidisciplinary project delivery.
The company also plans to use its experienced engineering workforce to develop future technical and project leaders. Career pathways are expected to include technical leadership, project management and roles involving direct engagement with international projects. As per Gradiant, Coimbatore was selected for further investment because of its engineering talent pool and established industrial and manufacturing ecosystem.
The expansion comes as demand for water treatment, reuse and wastewater recycling grows in sectors such as semiconductor manufacturing, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals and advanced manufacturing. Rising investments in data centres and AI infrastructure are also expected to increase demand for industrial water-management solutions.
India is becoming a larger part of Gradiant’s global growth strategy. The company has already executed water and wastewater projects in the country, including a 10,000 cubic metre per day wastewater recycling facility for a solar PV manufacturing unit in Tamil Nadu.
It has also delivered an integrated ultrapure water, wastewater treatment and recycling, and zero liquid discharge facility for a semiconductor manufacturer in Gujarat.
Gradiant plans to further expand its engineering capabilities in India over the next three years. Its Coimbatore and Chennai operations are expected to develop into a strategic engineering hub supporting projects in India and international markets.
The expansion is set to strengthen Gradiant’s engineering base in India while creating opportunities for Indian professionals to work on large-scale water infrastructure projects globally.
