Flipkart has added three additional fulfilment centres in Karnataka to further strengthen its supply-chain network in the state and meet the growing demand of customers in the region. This will create new employment opportunities for people with a total of 14,000 direct and indirect jobs in the region, which will also help thousands of small sellers and farmers with better opportunities. As per the Company’s statement there will be jobs available in roles such as movers, packers and sorters along with other indirect blue-collared and third- party jobs in housekeeping and security.

These new facilities are equipped to collect items from small sellers, which will then be processed and packed and sent for sorting and delivery to the delivery hubs, from where they are delivered to the end consumers. These specially-designed facilities are capable of fulfilling the purpose of sellers of apparel, mobiles, large appliances, furniture, and electronics located in Kolar, Hubli and Anekal. The facilities cover an area of 7 lakh square feet and have storage capacity of 15.6 lac cubic feet which will support more than 10,500 sellers and MSMEs in the region.

As per the Company, there is a growing demand for e-commerce services in Karnataka, which is also encouraging small-time sellers and MSMEs to move towards entrepreneurship.

These new facilities were inaugurated virtually, by Prahlad Joshi, Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha, from the Dharwad Lok Sabha constituency in Karnataka.

Recognising the fact that Karnataka, is the Silicon Valley of the country and has given rise to some of the most successful startups in India, due to “its conducive policies, state-of-the-art infrastructure and wide availability of talent”, the Minister expressed pride in the fact that “Flipkart, a state-bred startup, has grown into a pan-India organisation and is making significant investments in its home state to accelerate value creation for all.”

Assuring Flipkart complete cooperation and support, the Minister expressed confidence that the “supply-chain infrastructure expansion in the state, including North Karnataka, will spur economic activity and create large-scale entrepreneurship and employment opportunities” in Karnataka.

As of now, the company has about nine such facilities in the state including sorting hubs spread over an area of 23 lakh square feet, with almost 26,000 jobs created in the state.

“As a committed corporate citizen, our endeavour is to create value for all our stakeholders as we onboard lakhs of MSMEs and small sellers to serve millions of consumers from all the country. In this journey, we have invested in a tech-enabled supply chain network that is helping create thousands of direct job opportunities across the country, and also aiding indirect job opportunities in ancillary industries. The new state-of-the-art facilities will help in fueling economic growth while setting a benchmark in the industry and make Karnataka even more attractive for e-commerce operations for all stakeholders, including sellers, MSMEs, small farmers, Kiranas and artisans,” says Rajneesh Kumar, chief corporate affairs officer, Flipkart Group.
