Wipro has granted 2,46,048 restricted stock units (RSUs) to identified employees under its Employee Stock Options, Performance Stock Unit and Restricted Stock Unit Scheme 2024. The grant is effective from 12 October, 2026, according to the company’s disclosure to the stock exchanges under applicable Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) regulations.
The RSUs will vest according to the schedule approved by the Nomination and Remuneration Committee of Wipro’s board. Employees will be able to exercise the units within the exercise period approved by the committee. The company has not disclosed the identities of the employees receiving the grant or the individual allocation of units.
RSUs are a form of equity-based employee compensation through which eligible employees receive company shares after meeting specified vesting conditions. Unlike stock options, which generally give employees the right to purchase shares at a predetermined exercise price, RSUs typically convert into shares once the applicable vesting requirements are fulfilled. Employees usually do not need to pay an exercise price to receive shares under an RSU grant, although tax obligations may apply.
Companies use such incentives to link a portion of employee compensation to long-term business performance and shareholder value. Vesting schedules can also encourage employees to remain with an organisation over a specified period, depending on the conditions attached to the award.
For technology companies such as Wipro, equity-based compensation can form part of broader talent retention and reward strategies, particularly for employees with specialised skills and critical responsibilities. Such schemes allow companies to offer employees a financial stake in the business alongside their regular compensation.
