Uber is planning to add 500 techies at its Hyderabad and Bengaluru centres in India. Recently, the Company inaugurated another floor at its Bengaluru centre. The new space was unveiled by Ashwath Narayan, minister of IT for Karnataka. Uber’s VP & head of mobility engineering, Praveen Neppalli Naga, was also in India for the inauguration.

By end of December 2022, Uber is looking to close all 500 positions.

The centres at Hyderabad and Bengaluru handle critical functions for Uber such as rider engineering, eats engineering, infra tech, data, maps, Uber for business, fintech, customer obsession, as well as growth and marketing, among others.

The Company “is looking for best-in-class engineers, data scientists, and programme managers to join its global engineering and product teams, with the aim of ‘building locally, and scaling globally’,” says Manikandan Thangarathnam, senior director – engineering, Uber.

“Excited about the possibilities that a rapidly evolving mobility space presents,” Thangarathnam is confident that Uber “will continue to lead innovations for our customers across the world”.

Having begun its tech journey in India in 2014, from a bungalow in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, Uber has come a long way. Now, it boasts of tech centers in India, which are its second largest in the world, after the ones in the US.

This hiring news comes about a week after Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO, Uber had said that Uber will cut down on hiring, treating is as a ‘privilege’ as it is looking to become a more lean business.
