The agreement will be implemented with effect from April 1, 2015 till March 31, 2018. The arrears will be paid in three instalments over three years.

The six-month-long wage negotiations at Maruti Suzuki India’s Gurgaon plant, finally came to an end last week. The workers’ union and the management reached a consensus, but only after 40 meetings.

As per the agreement, the basic pay of the workers will be increased by Rs 16,800 per month. The three-year agreement will be implemented w.e.f April 1, 2015 till March 31, 2018. And the arrears will be paid in three instalments in three years — 50:25:25. The arrears of the first lot will be paid by the end of September, 2015.

In addition, employees who use their own vehicles will be given Rs 2,000 per month for seven years, for buying new Maruti cars.

In appreciation of the peaceful negotiations with the three unions — Maruti Udyog Kamgar Union, Maruti Suzuki Worker Union, Maruti Suzuki Powertrain Employees Union — the management has also decided to give Rs 3,000 as one-time incentive to the workers, which will be paid in September,2015 itself.

Welcoming the agreement, leaders of all three unions said they were well-wishers of the workers as well as the company, and believed that all problems can be ironed out across the table, without raising disputes.

Among those who represented the company were HR executives, Yoshikazu Ozawa, CS Raju, Rajiv Gandhi, and divisional managers, S G Mani and Parikhshit Mani.

Can we have the salient features of agreement in relation to productivity, rationalisation etc., that how the increased cost will be absorbed. It will be better to know, when this amount is quoted by other unions.
