Amazon India and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) have joined forces to expand the Women of the World (WoW) initiative nationwide. WoW empowers women engineering students with essential skills for the tech industry. The collaboration, signed by Suman Yadav of Amazon and Prof. T G Sitharam of AICTE, aims to provide women with tools and knowledge for success in technology.

Connecting female students with the Amazon community, the programme will offer skill sessions and valuable resources. This partnership aligns with AICTE and Amazon’s shared vision of nurturing talent for the tech sector.

Through this agreement, Amazon is committed to encouraging and enabling the next generation of women tech leaders and innovators in India.

Prof. T G Sitharam, chairman of AICTE, is enthusiastic about the collaboration, noting that Amazon India is using its industry knowledge and technical abilities to empower women in the country. The Amazon WoW programme is seen as highly beneficial for women in engineering colleges across India, providing essential skills such as coding and creating opportunities for industry exposure and soft skill development. This initiative reflects AICTE’s commitment to building a more inclusive and dynamic tech environment.

Chetan Krishnaswamy, vice president of Public Policy, Amazon India, expressed his excitement about the collaboration with AICTE for the WoW programme. He believes that this partnership with AICTE, as the umbrella body for technical education institutions, will enable Amazon to sensitise and upskill future female leaders in tech across the country. Krishnaswamy hopes that through this initiative, women will not only gain skills for job opportunities but also form a supportive community.

Suman Yadav, director of student programmes, Amazon, highlighted the success of the Amazon WoW programme since its 2021 launch. She acknowledged the gap in the country’s talent landscape and emphasised that WoW bridges that gap by providing a structured path, including mentorship and learning opportunities for women engineering students. Yadav stated that the collaboration with AICTE will further support their efforts to democratise access to knowledge, enabling and empowering women students to build fulfilling tech careers.

Since its start, Amazon WoW has attracted over 2,98,000 subscribers. More than 900 women have landed internships or full-time roles at Amazon, showcasing the programme’s success. In the past year, over 40 sessions, each attended by an average of 300+ students, have covered coding, problem-solving, tech interviews and data structures. The programme also includes open office hours with senior Amazon employees for personalised guidance.

In line with Amazon India and AICTE’s shared goals, this collaboration aims to optimise resources, enhance skills and promote tech careers for women in STEM. It not only facilitates job opportunities but also empowers women to contribute significantly to India’s digital economy.
