The company will setup treadmills across its offices to motivate its employees and also initiate a social media campaign around the same.

Employee health and wellness has come into focus for most organisations now, as it is not only being linked to employee productivity but also to the overall employee happiness quotient. With a similar objective PNB MetLife, on June 1 – Global Running Day, is organising a special employee engagement activity under the ‘#RunForHappiness’ platform. It is to inspire employees to run for health and happiness.

The company will set-up treadmills across its offices to motivate its employees. The company as urged its workforce to run on the treadmill, get their photographs clicked and share across social platforms.

The intent of social shares of this activity is to help promote this cause through its employee network, and also to create a multiplier effect by reaching out to a larger group outside the organisation.

Photographs which garner the maximum impressions on social media will be rewarded.

“As an organisation, we believe that physical fitness is equally important as fiscal fitness. Hence, we encourage our employees and customers to proactively build a healthy and active lifestyle” says, Tim Braswell, director HR, PNB MetLife.

The company has also recently announced the next edition of Guinness World Records holder ‘PNB MetLife Satara Hill Half Marathon’. They have been promoting health and happiness under ‘#PlayForHappiness’ with their Badminton associations. Extending the #RunForHappiness’ campaign, the company has been promoting Walkathons and Marathons as well.

Sedentary lifestyles, sitting for long periods of time and lack of physical activities have paved way for a lot of health disorders.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has identified India as a nation that will have most of the lifestyle-related disorders in the near future. It also suggests that regular moderate intensity physical activity – such as walking, cycling, or participating in sports – has significant benefits for health.

Running as a form of exercise has garnered huge popularity in India with the growing admiration of marathons and running related events across the nation. According to RunRepeat.com, from 2009 to 2014 popularity of marathon running in India has risen over 150%.

This initiative not only promotes running and walking as an easy, healthy, and accessible form of exercise but is also a great way of engaging employees. With this being implemented on the Global Running Day, it sets a good example of the corporates encouraging employee health and wellness.
