The Telangana government has announced a major bonus for employees of Singareni Collieries Company (SCCL) following the coal miner’s profit of Rs 1,754 crore.
Every permanent employee will receive Rs 1,53,912, while each contract worker will get Rs 5,500. The announcement continues the tradition of festival bonuses ahead of Dasara.
Beyond the bonus, the government has outlined a series of welfare measures. Pending compassionate appointment cases—estimated at 250–300—will be cleared within 15 days. Housing initiatives are being expanded, healthcare facilities upgraded, and solar power-generation projects strengthened. District collectors and SCCL officials have been directed to prepare lists of eligible beneficiaries for house site pattas, with plans to establish new residential colonies under the Nehru Housing scheme.
Financial security is also being enhanced. Around 30,000 contract workers will be covered by free accident insurance worth Rs 40 lakh, while permanent employees will receive coverage of Rs 1.2 crore. The government has instructed SCCL management to remit income tax on behalf of employees and release performance related pay due to officials.
Since assuming office, the government has filled 3,189 posts at SCCL, including 2,437 on compassionate grounds and 752 through external recruitment. Ministers emphasised that these steps address long pending issues and provide relief to families without delay.
The announcement highlights how employee welfare is being tied directly to company performance and government policy. Bonuses, insurance, housing and healthcare are being positioned not just as benefits, but as instruments of workforce stability and engagement. The Singareni case illustrates how HR interventions can extend beyond payroll into holistic support for employees and their families.
