IELTS becomes simpler, good news for Indian nurses and midwives

The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), UK, has simplified the English language proficiency requirements for foreign nationals who wish to work as nurses and midwives in the UK.

While the nurses and midwives seeking employment in the UK will still need to score a minimum of 7.0 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), a 6.5 score in the written test will be acceptable , if the candidate has scored 7.0 each in the reading, listening and speech tests.

This is seen as a great opportunity for Indian nurses and midwives, by the British Council, which manages the IELTS across almost 45 locations in India.

Being the most widely-used test of the English language for migration to Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the UK, IELTS is recognised by over 10,000 universities, schools, organisations and immigration bodies, which includes universities and institutions in Australia, the UK and the US.

IELTS assesses four main languages skills, that is, listening, speaking, reading and writing.
