Dream 11 hires people for who they are

Each one of us, as a professional, may wear a different hat every day. However, it is our personalities, individualities and inclinations in life that make us what we are! Each person is unique, with unique interests and preferences in life, which cannot be ignored, even in the workplace. Organisations that understand that workforces are made of real people, who expect their employers to acknowledge and appreciate their individualities, have done well in the past and continue to win.

Dream 11, a sports-gaming platform and a rapidly growing sports technology company, is one that lives by this principle. It has won the hearts of its employees and has consequently seen significant business success. According to Kevin Freitas, chief human resource officer,

Dream11, “If you are great at life you are great at work. If you work smartly, you work well.”

Celebrating a culture driven by passion, purpose and performance, Dream 11 just launched a digital-first employer branding campaign – ‘Be a GameChanger, Be a Dreamster’. The campaign celebrates the Company’s vibrant and dynamic work culture, where talented sports tech enthusiasts, accomplish their professional ambitions while aptly balancing their personal aspirations.

Kick-started with an animated video bringing alive Dream11’s characteristic work culture and ethos, this campaign highlights various facets of the Company as a great place to work, giving every Dreamster the freedom to dream big!

    Kevin Freitas

“If you are great at life you are great at work. If you work smartly, you work well.”

Talking about the company culture, Harsh Jain, CEO & co-founder, Dream11, says, “What brings Dream11 together, makes our team greater than the sum of our individuals, and unites us, is our culture. It is our team spirit, team chemistry and the manner in which we play to win every day that sets us apart. We believe in hiring great talent, which helps us transform the way a sports fan consumes sports.”

Freitas also believes that it is important that people should feel free and be allowed to be who they are in their personal lives. The Company also respects and appreciates what its people’s interests and drivers are. The Company believes that the extra talent and interest one inculcates in one’s own self shapes their personality. This, in turn, reflects in their work.
So a passionate cricketer fixing codes or an adventure biker preparing the marketing plans and strategies at Dream11, should not come as a surprise, because the organisation doesn’t kill the person in you.

“At Dream11 we try to make sure people get a lot of free time to look into their apps, games and their personal mails. You can’t expect your employees to work all the time,” Freitas adds.

    Harsh Jain

“What brings Dream11 together, makes our team greater than the sum of our individuals, and unites us, is our culture. It is our team spirit, team chemistry and the manner in which we play to win every day that sets us apart. We believe in hiring great talent, which helps us transform the way a sports fan consumes sports.”

The campaign, ‘Be a GameChanger, Be a Dreamster’ also broadly aims to create a good work environment for Dream11’s current and future generation of employees. It aims to create a workplace where the employees can perfectly balance their professional and personal lives. The campaign is being promoted on various social- media platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn, as it is looking at hiring 100 passionate and talented Dreamsters, in addition to the 150 that already make up its band. Freitas shares that they are looking forward to hiring some talented engineers who also love sports; some product managers and data scientists.

In order to get the best out of the employees, it is essential that they feel they are an integral part of the organisation and its culture. According to Freitas, culture is the most important thing that defines a company. A good working environment can only be created through focus on two things —freedom of responsibility and transparency in work.

The Company also has some other unique policies and activities, which allow its employees a great work environment as well as flexible work life. In addition to instant relocation facility, with support for up to three weeks of stay, freedom of sharing ideas and no minimum working hour rule, employees are also able to avail half month’s rent or up to Rs 20,000 towards the same every month. Another interesting policy, #Unplugged, allows Dreamsters to completely disconnect from work for up to five working days of their annual planned leave, with no access to work e-mail.
