Melonie D Parker, chief diversity officer, Google, has been appointed to the board of Dallas-based diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB) technology company, Kanarys Inc.

The company works on a data-driven DEIB strategy to help organisations eliminate inequities so that the workplace becomes more inclusive and progressive. Kanarys offers tools that help ensure meaningful and long-term changes pertaining to DEIB.

Given Parker’s experience in promoting and advocating DE&I in the corporate world, and her data-driven approach to DEIB, she will be able to ensure equitable outcomes for Kanarys as she has been doing globally. Leveraging her guidance, Kanarys hopes to offer the ideal framework to organisations for delivering DEIB strategies that lead to more inclusive workplaces.

Parker is known to be the driving force behind Google’s commitment to encouraging diversity amongst budding entrepreneurs and tackling the tech industry’s talent pipeline in its workforce.

Interestingly, Parker was the first Black woman to take on the role of vice president – HR and communications, Sandia National Laboratories, before she joined Google in 2017, as director – people operations.

The addition of Parker to the board of Kanarys is in line with the firm’s increasing focus on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) regulations worldwide. The need for accessible DEIB data becomes essential for supporting and retaining employees, with more and more firms navigating these standards. This is where Parker’s experience comes into play.
