American Express is hunting for software engineers, coders and developers to fill 1,500 vacancies in its technology division. It has already hired over 3,600 techies this year and expects to hire more by the end of the year.
This hiring does come as a surprise, given the fear of recession that is looming large. Other financial companies in the US have been adopting cost-cutting measures and reducing team size.
About 60 per cent of these hirings will happen in the US. About one-third of hires will be made in India and the remaining in Europe.
The card issuer presently has 64,000 employees and is seeking more tech talent.
With travel picking up and more people stepping out to eat and dine, spending has gone up, which is a good sign for the AmEx network. Therefore, the Company feels this is the right time to invest in tech talent.
AmEx offers flexibility to its employees. About 40 per cent of the workforce is already working on 100 per cent virtual mode. Most of its employees work from office twice a week and from home or remotely for the remaining time.
Ravi Radhakrishnan, chief information officer, American Express, recently told Bloomberg News that the finance company is on the lookout for data scientists, engineers and analysts capable of handling fraud management, lifestyle services and the venture capital division of the Company.
