Flipkart has partnered with Adani Logistics, to improve its supply chain infrastructure and its capacity to serve its fast-growing customer base. This partnership will give rise to about 2,500 direct jobs.

Adani Logistics, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone, will build a warehouse or fulfilment centre, spread over 5.34 lakh sq. ft., on its logistics facility in Mumbai. This will then be leased to Flipkart, the Indian e-commerce marketplace, to help tackle the rising demand for e-commerce in the western region of the country, and lend support to Flipkart’s sellers and MSMEs.

With a capacity to store inventories to the tune of 10 million units, this fulfilment centre will be equipped with the latest technologies and will begin operations by the third quarter of 2022. The facility will also provide about 2,500 direct jobs to the locals and thousands of indirect jobs too.

Flipkart is also gearing to establish its third data centre at AdaniConneX’s Chennai-based facility. It will utilise AdaniConneX’s — a joint venture between EdgeConneX and Adani Enterprises — expertise and data centre technology solutions to its advantage.

This new reliable, highly secure and sustainable facility will allow Flipkart to design the data centre in alignment with its ever growing infrastructure demands, ensuring security and containing data locally, within the country. It will also benefit from the Adani Group’s ability to generate and harness green power.

Speaking on the collaboration, Karan Adani, chief executive officer, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), rightly pointed out that “this is what Atmanirbharta should be all about.” He explained that “this unique business model, is a great opportunity to serve Flipkart’s physical as well as digital infrastructure needs. Flipkart has been instrumental in defining e-commerce adoption in India, both through the value it creates and its constant technological innovation to serve its consumers. We look forward to a long and fruitful partnership as we focus on learning from each other as well as leveraging our mutual strengths to prioritise consumers and development of India’s MSME ecosystem.”
Kalyan Krishnamurthy, group chief executive officer, Flipkart, acknowledges the unmatched manner in which the Adani Group “has gone about building infrastructure across India. What it brought to us was a unique combination of logistics, real estate, green energy, and data centre infrastructure capabilities.”
