Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Pune has witnessed 100 per cent internship in its maiden campus placement. The first batch of students of the institute—established in 2016, by the human resource development department, Government of India and non-for profit private partners (NPPP)— will pass out this year. While the highest stipend stood at Rs 30,000, the average stipend was Rs 16000. The highest accepted package by a student was Rs 22 lakh, which was offered to four students. The Institute claims that more companies are expected to make higher offers in the final round.

There are 450 students in total, at IIIT Pune, with the first batch being the smallest, comprising 60 students only. However, the Institute seems to have certainly made a mark in the industry, with students being offered internships by big names, including Bosch and Tata Consultancy Services.

With a small faculty comprising merely 15 members, the Institute is actively seeking good teachers. It follows a very strict selection procedure, and is on the lookout for teachers who possess expertise in machine learning (ML), data analysis, robotics and other areas that are in demand these days.

The Institute has also begun admitting students to MTech and PhD courses, starting this year.

It aims to encourage research in the areas of data analytics and machine learning. It hopes to see quality research being done in the use of machine learning and data analytics for diagnosing diseases or creating multi-robot systems.
