IDA Ireland, the Irish government’s agency for foreign direct investment, has appointed Kanishk Kumar as its new country director for India. This move is part of IDA’s 2025–2029 efforts to strengthen economic ties with India and attract more investment into Ireland.
Working with over 1,800 client companies worldwide, IDA Ireland supports more than three lakh jobs and contributes over €40 billion annually to the Irish economy. In the past decade, employment in IDA-supported firms has grown by 55 per cent, while spending on Irish goods and services has risen sharply.
Kumar brings nearly 20 years of experience in advising businesses on international expansion and investment. His role will focus on building stronger partnerships with Indian companies in sectors such as technology, semiconductors, life sciences, medtech, and fintech. The aim is to create new opportunities for Indian firms looking to expand into Europe, while also supporting job creation and innovation in Ireland.
IDA’s new strategy highlights areas such as digitalisation, AI, sustainability, and health as key drivers of future growth. Ireland is positioning itself as a gateway to the European Union, offering stability, skilled talent, and advanced infrastructure—factors that align with what Indian businesses seek in global expansion.
The appointment reflects the growing importance of India–Ireland relations, built on decades of cooperation. By deepening investment flows and focusing on next-generation industries, both countries are expected to benefit from new jobs, stronger business links, and shared innovation.
