It is reported that more than 49,000 regional transport corporation (RTC) employees in Telangana will retire by 2055, as the state government of Telangana is all set to roll out a voluntary retirement scheme (VRS).
Starting this year, a minimum of 600 employees and maximum of 2450 will be retiring from RTC every year. By 2055 all the existing employees will attain retirement.
About 650 employees will retire this year, and in about 12 years, that is, by 2032, about 2,494 employees will retire, which will probably be the highest number of retirements from the RTC. About 80 per cent of the employees will retire by the year 2040. As per the details, drivers and conductors constitute 77.11 per cent of the total staff.
Currently, the RTC has over 4,500 employees between the ages of 56 and 58. It has more than 10,700 employees between the ages of 51 and 55, and over 9000 employees aged between 46 and50. It has 10,874 employees in the age range of 41 to 45, and over 8000 workers in the age range of 36 to 40. About 5,342 of its employeesto belong to the age group of 31 to 35, and over 800 belong to the range of 26 to 30, while 170 are under the age of 25.
The retirement age has also been increased from 58 to 60 and 55-day strike period salary will also be given to the staff, who called off their strike after almost two months.
