Shapoorji Pallonji Group, the Indian business conglomerate, dealing in construction, textiles and real estate among many other things, recently integrated corporate social responsibility (CSR) and employee engagement to organise the ‘Breaking Barriers Olympics’. This one-day sports event focussed on the Group’s differently-abled workforce from its Eureka Forbes’ call centre, EuroAble.
The call centre is run by 160 differently abled individuals, out of which 70 participated in the event along with 200 employees of Shapoorji Pallonji. The programme aimed to celebrate diversity and inclusivity.
The sports event created an opportunity for the differently-abled employees to mingle and socialise with the other employees and their families, as equals. The event was a way to sensitise employees and also send across a clear message that the Group believes in providing equal opportunities for all to grow and develop.
The event saw eight cricket teams competing against each other. In addition, there were 32 doubles teams for badminton and 32 doubles teams for carroms. Each team had a mix of abled and differently-abled employees playing together, displaying perfect team spirit. The children weren’t left out of the celebration. There was a ‘Kids Corner’ with fun activities to keep the little ones engaged with storytelling, art, music and face painting sessions conducted by the staff of EuroAble. The event concluded with awards being given away to the participants and winners.
