Under the Chief Minister’s Rojgar Yojana (CMRY), the Goa cabinet has approved a scheme for engineering graduates and diploma holders, which will enable them to bag government contracts for small works or projects in the public works department (PWD).
A separate slot will be created for fresh engineers wherein they can bid for contracts. Engineers below the age of 35, who have just earned their diploma or graduate degree in engineering, are eligible for this scheme.
Those holding diplomas can bid for projects up to Rs 5 lakhs and those with degrees can bid for projects up to Rs 10 lakhs. The Economic Development Corporation (EDC), which is run by the Goa government, will issue loans to these engineers to help them take up these projects.
The scheme will also help break the monopoly of some middlemen contractors who offer employment to fresh graduates by taking on these small contractual roles.
Those with a diploma or degree in civil engineering are directly eligible for the scheme, but the opportunity is also open for people who have completed the course in other streams of engineering.
This scheme comes almost a week after Goa announced its Goa Common Entrance Test (GCET) examination dates for 2021. The 2021 graduates as well as the current batch of fresh graduates are eligible for this scheme.
