To train the rapidly-evolving workforce in AI and other emerging technologies, Singapore has introduced the SkillsFuture Level-Up Programme (SFLP) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MOE). The programme will target mid-career Singaporeans aged 40 and above and help them stay competitive in the job market.
Emphasising the necessity to adapt to the technological disruptions, the SFLP aims to offer subsidies for full-time diploma programmes in higher education, acknowledging the changing nature of skills demanded by industries.
Furthermore, the programme encourages intergenerational learning, allowing mid-career workers to acquire new skills alongside younger counterparts. This blend of experience and fresh perspectives enriches the learning environment and underscores the significance of lifelong learning.
To support participation, eligible Singaporeans can benefit from the Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy (MCES), covering up to 90 per cent of course fees for MOE and SSG-funded programmes. Additionally, a SkillsFuture Credit (Mid-Career) top-up of $4,000 will be provided, complementing the existing SkillsFuture Credit scheme. This ensures that mid-career individuals have access to resources for skills upgradation throughout their careers.
The initiative builds upon previous efforts, such as the one-off SkillsFuture Credit top-up provided to citizens aged 40 to 60 in 2020.
The expiry date on this top-up will be lifted, and balances will be merged with the new $4,000 top-up, facilitating a seamless transition.
Singaporeans can utilise the mid-career tier of SkillsFuture Credit for a diverse range of courses, including full qualification programmea offered by Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs), MOE-subsidised qualifications from artistic institutions, career-transition programmes, courses aligned with Progressive Wage Model sectors, and workplace literacy and numeracy courses.
