Swiggy has introduced a one-of-its kind moonlight policy, which allows all its full-time employees to take up external projects, subject to approvals from the internal team of Swiggy.
Employees will be free to take up these projects on pro-bono or economic consideration basis. They can work on these external projects provided they do not hamper their productivity at Swiggy. This work, however, has to be done outside their regular working hours or on weekends, without allowing it to conflict with the interest of Swiggy’s business.
Swiggy’s moonlight policy has come just after the company had announced a work- from-anywhere policy for certain roles in the company. During the lockdowns, many IT firms were facing issues of employees moonlighting. Later, many IT giants who were offering flexibility to employees during the crisis, suddenly wanted all their people back in office, at least for certain days, if not the entire week.
Swiggy is one of the first companies in India to have introduced such a progressive approach towards moonlighting.
“Swiggy has always strived to understand the diverse aspirations of its employees and to design its organisational policies to suit their evolving needs. With the Moonlighting Policy, our goal is to encourage employees to pursue their passion without any constraints due to their full-time employment with us. This is yet another step in our journey towards building a world class ‘people first’ organisation,” shares Girish Menon, head – HR, Swiggy.
The policy is available to all full-time employees of Bundl Technologies, including subsidiaries, affiliates, associates and group companies.
While announcing the work-from-anywhere policy as well, the Company has allowed corporate, central business functions and technology teams the flexibility to work from anywhere.
The Company took the decision basis the feedback the management received from their managers. However, people in client- or partner-facing roles are required to visit the office from their base location a few days in a week.
