In his address at Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Conference in Lucknow on October 4, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced that the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) workers will be entitled to a 180-day maternity leave coupled with 24 days of casual leave and 12 days of medical leave. They will also enjoy an increment in wages!
The Uttar Pradesh government also has plans to introduce and implement HR policies for the MNREGA workers on the lines of the Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission which would guarantee leaves for the workers.
That is not all. Adityanath has announced a hike in the wages of the MNREGA workers as well as Gram Rozkar Sevaks.
The revised salary structure for MNREGA workers and Gram Rozkar Sevaks is as follows — Rs 10,000 each to MGNREGA workers and Gram Sevaks, Rs 15,656 to technical assistants, Rs 15,156 to computer operators, Rs 34,140 to additional programme officers, Rs 15,156 to accounts assistants, Rs 18,320 to operation assistants, Rs 18,320 to helpline executives, Rs 9,000 to class IV workers, Rs 14,100 to block social audit coordinators and Rs 19,900 to district social-audit coordinators.
The revised salary structures will come into effect in the month of October itself.
The Rozkar Sevaks are recruited under the MNREG Act for contractual employment opportunities under the states government. In his address at the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Conference, Adityanath also mentioned that the government is working on ensuring 100 days of employment under MNREGA, which will benefit around 20 lakh families across the state working on projects worth Rs 13,000 crores.
Also, the consent of deputy commissioner of MNREGA has been made mandatory before terminating any workers so that they do not lose their employment without warning or reason.
