Uttam Lal, chief general manager – HR- corporate social responsibility-rehabilitation & resettlement and land acquisition (CSR-R&R/LA), National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), has moved to National Hydro Electric Power Corporation (NHPC) as director personnel.
Lal’s tenure has begun on June 13 and he will hold the position until May 31, 2026.
At NTPC, Lal was heading the HR function at NETRA, the research and development wing of the thermal power company.
He is known to have played a key role in establishing the research team, developing competency frameworks, designing academies, and fostering industrial collaborations. Lal was also the head of HR and CSR functions at NTPC-Vindhyachal, India’s largest power plant, and served as the regional HR head for the Northern Region.
With over 35 years of experience in personnel management, industrial relations, and corporate social responsibility, he is a seasoned professional in his field.
Along with post-graduate diploma in personnel management and industrial relations from Xavier Institute of Social Sciences (Ranchi), Lal also hold an LLB degree from Ranchi University.
Lal has also been an in-house faculty of NTPC’s Power Management Institute (PMI) based in Noida, and a guest faculty at IIM Lucknow.
NHPC is a government-owned energy utility in India. It focuses on developing hydro electric power plants and generating electricity from hydro, wind, and solar sources.
