Santanu Ghoshal, who spent well over 13 years with Schaeffler, has moved on to join Walchandnagar Industries, as president-organisation development.
An alumnus of XLRI Jamshedpur, Ghoshal wasn’t always an HR person. He started off as a mining engineer with Hindustan Copper, way back in 1989. Then, after completing a PG in personnel management and industrial relations, he joined Crompton Greaves as personnel executive, in 1995. Less than three years into this role, he decided to switch to Exide Industries, where he joined as manager-corporate HR. In this role, he successfully led employee relations and development at the Exide plant in Haldia.
In February 2000, Ghoshal joined Timken India as divisional manager-HR and IR, based out of Jamshedpur. Less than two years later, he became HR manager-Timken Research. This role took him to Bengaluru, where he successfully set up and then scaled four unrelated verticals— engineering services; manufacturing engineering; information technology and accounting back-end services. In 2005, he was elevated to the role of HR manager India.
His next stop was General Motors, where he joined as director-human resources, in 2006, based out of Pune. During his more than four-year long tenure, he successfully led HR for GM’s greenfield project in Talegaon.
The year 2010 saw him begin his long association with Schaeffler, a global supplier of technology focused automotive and industrial components. As a member of the executive leadership team for Schaeffler India and human resource global network for the Schaeffler Group, he played a crucial role in business transformation, and made significant contribution to the growth of Schaeffler India.
In his social-media post, Santanu Ghoshal admits to being excited to join Walchandnagar Industries, given its “strong legacy and technological prowess”. He is eager to be part of the company’s transformation journey. HRKatha wishes him luck in this new assignment with the company that specializes in heavy engineering, hi-tech manufacturing and turnkey project execution.
