When Amazon posted 30,000 jobs, little did it expect that about 208,000 hopefuls would turn up to apply! The e-commerce company is planning to establish two new headquarters in the US. It held job fairs in six cities to recruit people, attracting college graduates in huge numbers. A variety of openings have been posted on its job portal too, including vacancies in sales, technical writing and compliance auditing.

One of the headquarters is being planned at Arlington County, where the Company expects to create 400 jobs in 2019 and thousands more by 2020. Presently, the Company is looking to hire recruiters, product managers, software engineers, identity engineers and data centre technicians for Arlington County.

The recruiters are looking out for creative people, who are innovative and keen to work in teams.

While the queue at the job fair was the longest ever in recent times, people living in the area have already started discussing the effect the establishment of the headquarter will have on the population.

Not only will thousands of people move to the area, which currently has a population of 2,40,000, but home prices have already begun to rise. This rise in housing prices is being called the ‘Amazon effect’.

With the increase in popularity of e-shopping, the e-commerce company has witnessed dramatic growth since its inception in 1994. It currently boasts of a massive workforce, comprising over six lakh workers, spread across the world. This number was merely 56000 about eight years back.
