Online placements have begun across the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) in the country. On day one of the drive at IIT Kharagpur, final year students have receive more than 130 job offers and 276 pre-placement offers (PPOs). At least 10 PPOs each have come from Microsoft, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Goldman Sachs, Tata Steel, MasterCard and Barclays. The first day of the drive saw participation from about 30 companies, including Sony-Japan, Cohesity US and TSMC with international offers. More than 2,100 students and over 200 companies have registered in the first phase of the drive. Offers have come from about 25 per cent core companies, 65 per cent software firms and 10 per cent consulting firms.
The 276 PPOs are part of the 425 eight-week internship opportunities that were bagged by students online.
Meanwhile, at IIT-Bombay (IIT-B), 18 companies offered jobs across sectors on the first day of placements and an annual package of Rs 46.41 lakh was the highest, offered by Qualcomm. Last year, the highest domestic annual package was Rs 32.59 lakh by Qualcomm. The highest international salary package, of about Rs 1.39 crore was offered by proprietary trading company, Optiver.
At IIT-Roorkee, the annual domestic package offered was Rs 80 lakh, much higher than the offer of Rs 62.2 lakh. Last year, 10 international offers were made on the first day itself, whereas this year only three international offers came by. Even Microsoft, which is known for making the highest international offers, offered only domestic roles this year.
Surprisingly, at IIT-Madras, 123 job offers came from 22 companies, which was higher than the 102 offers bagged on the first day of placement last year. While 19 offers came from Microsoft, 12 came from Texas Instruments and 10 each from Bajaj Auto and ISRO.
More PPOs were made this year as compared to last year at all IITs. Students at IIT Madras accepted 182 PPOs, whereas 153 were accepted by students of IIT-B.
