Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has asked officials to introduce a system in Andhra Pradesh that will link employee performance to career weightage. He called for formal recognition of outstanding staff with monthly appreciation letters. The idea is to motivate employees at all levels while ensuring government services remain efficient and accessible to citizens.
At a review meeting with senior officials from departments such as revenue, health, transport, urban development, and fire services, the proposal was welcomed. For the first time, the state will officially record appreciation letters in personal service registers, giving recognition real weight in an employee’s career. It is reportedly believed that this will encourage healthy competition, boost morale, and highlight the importance of consistent performance.
The initiative has two sides: rewarding those who excel and supporting those who fall short. Departments are expected to counsel and motivate underperforming staff, ensuring they improve rather than feel sidelined. This balanced approach aims to create a culture where employees are both accountable and encouraged to grow.
The Chief Minister also reviewed public health infrastructure, stressing that sanitation must be a top priority in hospitals, from primary health centres upwards. Outsourcing agencies responsible for cleanliness will be held accountable, and hospitals that repeatedly fail to maintain hygiene standards will be identified.
By combining recognition for high performers with accountability for lapses, the government hopes to strengthen employee engagement and improve service delivery. For staff, this means their efforts will be more visible, their achievements formally acknowledged, and their performance directly tied to career progression.
