‘Google For Jobs’ yet another disruption in job matching

It will pull job listings from various sources across the internet and put them in the search result in a clean, relevant and informative way.

Google has rolled out its new job search feature called Google for Jobs in the US. Last month, at the company’s I/O conference, it had announced its plan of collaborating with career websites to list jobs in Google Search results. It will pull job listings from various sources across the internet and put them in the search result in a clean, relevant and informative way.

The aim is to help connect both the employer and the job seekers. Instead of searching scores of career sites for jobs, candidates can use a single window of Google Job Search to explore a wider range of filtered and curated jobs matching their interests.

During a keynote address at the company’s I/O conference, Sunder Pichai, CEO, Google, said, “The first step for many people when they start looking for a job is searching on Google. So we have built a new feature in Search with the goal that no matter who you are or what kind of job you are looking for, you can find the jobs that are right for you.”

The search engine giant will leverage its machine learning capabilities to filter and categorize the results to match the job seeker’s skill and experience.

Job seekers can explore job opportunities of all types on its platform, whether it is for entry-level, or an executive position.

One must simply type keywords such as ‘Jobs near me’ or ‘sales jobs’ to receive complete details about each job, including job description, job posting date, commute time from home, full or part time and rating of employers.

One can even set up a Google alert for a job category and get notified via email if any job matches the candidate’s interest.

One of the key benefits of Google for Job is that it will be easier to search jobs in areas of retail and hospitality as these categories are generally not listed on job sites.

Google has already partnered with career related companies like LinkedIn, Facebook, CareerBuilder, Glassdoor and Monster for listing of a large selection of jobs on its platform. The jobs listed on the companies’ websites will be reflected in Google Search results. Google for Jobs will help in getting prominent place in the search results for particular job listings, thereby increasing the chances of a click by a job seeker.

The company is said to disrupt the job matching industry with this initiative. Last year it launched Google’s Cloud Jobs API, which helps organizations bolster their recruitment sites, applicant tracking system and processes.

Companies such as Johnson & Johnson and FEDEX have already integrated the Google Jobs API into their career sites, which helps in suggesting available jobs to job seekers on their sites based on their experience and qualification.
