Looks like Indian youth give more importance to job security and work-life balance than to salary, according to a survey by Oliveboard.

Of the 5000 banking and government job seekers surveyed, a significant 44.3 per cent said that they gave maximum importance to job security and stability while considering a job. About 36.7 per cent preferred a health work-life balance. Only around 11 per cent considered a good salary as the most important criterion while considering a job.

The survey by the online competitive exam preparation portal revealed that 79 per cent of those surveyed belonged to tier 2 and tier 3 cities. Interestingly, 23 per cent of the respondents opted to take the mock test in Hindi and not English.

It is clear that a majority of Indians reside in small towns and villages, where public-sector jobs are still preferred.

About 58.7 per cent of the respondents preferred online mock tests to prepare for exams. About 44 per cent resorted to YouTube classes and videos, while over eight per cent still rely on the conventional coaching institutes.

A significant number (39.4 per cent) prepare for at least three competitive exams simultaneously.

Apparently, online coaching for competitive exams is growing popular for those seeking to clear JEE, NEET, Banking, SSC and GATE. Social media is only adding fuel to the reliance on the Internet with candidates enjoying convenient access to communities and discussion forums making it possible to interact easily with not just teachers but also peers.
